Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghoul, founder and director of Clarity Laser Vision, is a renowned ophthalmic surgeon specializing in cataract and corneal surgery. Known for his innovative approach, Dr. Al-Ghoul has set new standards in the field of ophthalmology.
Starting his medical journey at the age of 19, Dr. Al-Ghoul earned his degree from the University of Saskatchewan and completed a five-year residency in Ophthalmology. He then pursued a prestigious fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, gaining extensive expertise. In 2015, he added a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University to his impressive credentials. He is certified to practice in both Canada and the United States.
Dr. Al-Ghoul introduced several advanced surgical techniques to Alberta, including Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) and Corneal Cross-Linking (CXL), the latter learned directly from its inventor, Dr. Theo Seiler, in Switzerland.
In 2006, Dr. Al-Ghoul invented a device that improved tissue delivery for the DSAEK procedure, earning recognition from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. His contributions extend to medical research and education, where he has authored book chapters on corneal diseases and taught surgeons and medical students in Calgary.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Al-Ghoul volunteers his expertise in cataract surgery for those in need and enjoys martial arts, hiking, and traveling with his family.
