Dr. Alkawally is a dedicated optometrist with diverse experience across various clinical settings, including non-profit, rural, ophthalmology, corporate, and private practice.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology from the University of Calgary, focusing on genetics and microbiology research. She then received her Doctorate of Optometry with honors from the Southern California College of Optometry, along with a Master’s degree in Vision Science, specializing in dry eyes.
During her externships in California, Dr. Alkawally trained in multiple specialties, including specialty contact lenses, pediatrics, geriatrics, and ocular diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. She completed a residency at Empire Eye and Laser Center in Bakersfield, California, where she was mentored by optometrists and ophthalmologists from various specialties. There, she received intensive training in dry eyes and other ocular diseases, emergency eye care, and pre- and post-ocular surgery care. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in the Anterior Segment Section.
In her free time, Dr. Alkawally enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and trying new foods and restaurants. She also enjoys keeping up with the latest social media trends and hopes to one day figure out how to train her lively cat, Loki.
